Williamson County Hosts Groundbreaking for Westinghouse Road Project

Williamson County and the City of Georgetown held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Westinghouse Road project on Monday.

The project will improve about 5.5 miles of roads by widening the roads with two lanes of traffic, as well as shoulders and turning lanes at intersections, according to a press release. The project is located in Wards 3 and 4 of Williamson County.

“I am delighted to launch the Westinghouse project. This safety and mobility project has been planned for many years, and I am pleased to see it begin,” Enclosure 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said in the statement. “This project will provide an alternate east/west corridor for motorists and reduce congestion near Gateway School and for residents along the roadway.”

Steger Bizzell and Capital Excavation are the design engineers for the project. The project will cost $21,024,333, 34% of which will be funded by Georgetown and the rest through the county’s voter-approved 2019 road bond, according to the news release. The project is expected to be completed in early 2024.

The city would contribute $8.2 million, primarily to improve the shoulders on the two-lane section of the road that is within the city limits, according to a 2021 release.

“The city is thrilled to have one of its 2021 Mobility Bond projects underway. We appreciate our partnership with Williamson County, on this project and others, as we continue to see development at Georgetown,” Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said.

This project is part of an ultimate six-lane divided urban road for the East-West Transportation Corridor of Westinghouse Road, CR 111, CR 110 and CR 105, collectively referred to as CR 111, according to the release.

“With the growth we are seeing between Georgetown and Round Rock, the improvements on Westinghouse Road, in addition to affecting families and businesses, will give us the ability to move emergency services like ambulances and fire engines to places needed,” Commissar Russ of Precinct 4 Boles said in the statement.
