First train for Kanpur, Agra metro projects unveiled. Check features, images

Alstom today delivered the first train of the Kanpur metro to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). Alstom will also be responsible for the delivery of rolling stock and signaling for the Kanpur and Agra metro, including the scope of all LV technologies.

The unveiling was made at Alstom’s rolling stock manufacturing plant in Savli, Gujarat, by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, in the presence of Shri Kumar Keshav – MD, UPMRC, and Alain SPOHR – MD, Alstom. These metro trains are 100% made locally at the factory in Savli, Gujarat.

The new metro trains will benefit around 5 million citizens of the two cities. In addition, the overall project will significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.

Inspiration from Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage combined with top-notch design gave an attractive look to India’s latest metro fleet.

Characteristics of the Kanpur Metro train:

The aerodynamic modular design of the new MOVIA subways will provide a host of safety, security and environmental benefits as well as an excellent passenger experience. Built with stainless steel bodies, the air-conditioned cars will have automated sliding doors, comfortable seating and standing, dedicated areas for entry for people with disabilities, which use wheelchairs and modern passenger information systems, combining to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for passengers.

The trains will be fitted with FLEXX metro bogies and the MITRAC propulsion system to increase energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and ensure that the new trains meet the highest environmental standards. Each train will accommodate approximately 960 passengers in the three-car configuration.

Evaluated at approximately ??2051 crore (245 million euros), Alstom’s scope on the Agra-Kanpur metro project includes the design, construction and delivery of 201 metro cars (67 three-car MOVIA metro trains) and an advanced signaling solution (CITYFLO 650).
