JAMMU, 8 OCTOBER (KNS): Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Dheeraj Gupta, on Saturday chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the progress of the electric bus project for Jammu and Srinagar.
Relevantly, the government of Jammu and Kashmir is buying a fleet of 200 electric buses, 100 each for the capitals of the union territory, Jammu and Srinagar. Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) are the executing agencies of the project.
During the meeting, the Managing Director of JSCL, Rahul Yadav, briefed on the steps taken so far in addition to drawing up plans for the rapid start of the electric bus service in the two cities. He informed that a Letter of Intent (LoI) has been issued to M/S TATA Motors Limited for the supply and operation of electric buses, while the Letter of Intent has also been issued to M/S Chalo Mobility Private Limited to establish digital ticketing compliant with the National Common Mobility Card. The meeting was also informed that the contractual agreement with the two service providers will soon be signed.
Stating that the establishment of electric bus services is a crucial project and will play an important role in the adoption of a clean mode of transport, Dheeraj Gupta asked the project implementing agencies to speed up the process and eliminate all existing bottlenecks as soon as possible. He
The Principal Secretary was informed that the land has been finalized for setting up a charging and parking depot in Jammu while few locations have been shortlisted in Srinagar for the same.
The Principal Secretary gave strict instructions to SSCL to finalize the plot of land for the establishment of the bus depot and hand it over to TATA at the earliest. It also set a deadline for SSCL to complete all formalities.
He further requested the two service providers to travel to Srinagar to initiate the field investigation in addition to fulfilling other required arrangements. He asked the General Manager, Planning and Urban Development of SSCL to provide all support to the visiting team.
He also appointed the General Manager, Finance, Jammu Smart City as the nodal officer for the two cities for speedy execution of the project and ensured all possible assistance to the service providers.
The Principal Secretary informed that the process is also underway to identify routes in the two capitals that will enhance the travel experience of commuters in addition to increasing revenue generation.
The Principal Secretary was also informed that the introduction of electric buses in both cities will play a vital role in reducing pollution levels.
